Parkinson's and Statins

After some prodding, Perplexity AI admits that there is likely some connection between Parkinson's disease and statin use, at least in terms of the potentiality of progressing the disease along (making it worse). The supposed protective effects against cardiovascular disease were presented as the caveat against which the benefits of the cessation of statin use were weighed. Note that hydrophilic statins still reduce cholesterol by the same mechanism, inhibiting HMG-CoA, so though the argument presented is that they do not cross the blood-brain barrier as readily as lipophilic statins, they still reduce blood levels of cholesterol potentially involved in myelin regeneration, though most of that cholesterol is said to be produced by astrocytes. The basal ganglia degeneration characteristic of Parkinson's includes the degeneration of the myelin in that structure and older people have a more porous blood-brain barrier. I have provided the entire output below: Statin Use in Parkinso...

MAHA Moves on COVID-19 Vaccine Recommendations

Love it.  Now, remove ALL vaccine recommendations for children and pregnant women and start the prosecutions and executions. We also want any remaining vaccines to be required to be clean, with no unnecessary contamination from animal tissues and viruses or other bacteria, and with no poisons or heavy metals. All vaccines should be properly labeled, tested, and with proper liability in place for adverse effects. RFK and MAHA remove COVID-19 vaccine recommendations for children and pregnant women

Californians and the Insecurity of Place

I meet a few Californians a month complaining that they are being blamed for the destruction of Idaho and other states. I have rarely ever encountered any animosity toward myself directly from people in Idaho for being an outsider and whenever it has happened, it was understandable and very mild in character. This observation is considering that I am visibly darker in complexion, especially in the summer. Essentially, they were people who have lived here their entire lives who were complaining, rightly in some respects though ignoring other larger structural issues, that their housing prices have exploded because of high demand and out-of-state buyers who pay over asking price. It happened again yesterday, that I took a Lyft, and someone was complaining about Idahoans making them feel like they have done something wrong, without any specifics. Unless one experiences something directly, it is prudent to not allow the perception of a behavior gleaned from rumor to color one's vision....

The Concensus is an Illusion

Get a Clue, Use A Cue

A worthwhile read for those even generally socially adept for comparison or reinforcement. Social cues and body language often taken for granted, the most awkward and ornery are likely to need it the most while admitting it the least.

Go With The Flow

One shouldn’t waste time dismissively reaffirming that they know something over and over. They either do or they don’t and even the most virtuosic geniuses revisit the basics from time to time. If it isn’t necessary to repeat, then move on.
